WSU-Stanford is canceled. What does this mean for the Apple Cup?

The Cougars-Cardinal game expected for tomorrow evening is now canceled due to WSU did not meet the minimum number of scholarship players available for the game.

WSU has been dealing with injuries all season, and with the positive COVID test from true freshman quarterback Jayden de Laura, along with other players, this game has been ruled a no contest, and leaves the Apple Cup in question.

Because the Apple Cup is scheduled for Friday Nov. 27, the next game for WSU and UW, this game is considered “up in the air” with the situation at Washington State.

The Apple Cup is a tradition in the state of Washington that draws lines in the family, the neighborhood and even at your local grocery store. The last time these two teams did not meet were in the years of 1943 and 1944, also known as World War II.

Cougar fans now must hope the injured athletes return before Apple Cup Friday and de Laura’s positive test doesn’t rule him out, or else, this big rivalry game may have to wait another year.

The Apple Cup kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN next Friday. As of right now, there is currently no word on whether or not this game will be played.

So are we having the 113th meeting between WSU and UW? The answer: hopefully.
